 A tour to remember

On Wednesday I visited the National Museum of Kosovo, located in Prishtina. This museum is the perfect place for people like me that are fascinated with the history of its own people and that of the world. I got to learn about the pre-historic people and their artistry.

What caught my eye were boxes of necklaces, hand bangles, earrings, and bracelets, made of gold and bronze material. At that moment I thought,  Ah! only if time travel was possible! I would make these accessories mine, and wear them all the time.

Tears in a Bottle

Have you ever thought about storing your tears in a bottle? Well, the ancient people did, and the reason behind is both bitter and sweet. These glass bottles are called ‘tear-catchers’, in Albanian ‘Lotore’ from Lot (tear). They were used by wives who would be sad when their lovers would leave for war, and they would promise to store their tears in the ‘Lotore’ until they reunite. The sad part is that in case they didn’t they would store the tears in the big ‘Lotore’, as a sign of sadness. All I could think was, ‘’ I wish someone would store their tears in a bottle for me’’.

ART

After leaving the museum I saw that an Art Gallery was open, called ‘’Pa Limit’’ by the students of the Art School in Prishtina.

I am clueless about art, despite being exposed to it my whole life, due to having a family of artists, but let's hope my grandfather does not read this blog…  In the entrance of the Gallery stood a black well with a red bucket by the side and coins dangling from the ceiling.

I was amazed by this artwork, It took me back to my childhood. A similar well made of stones is in the village where my mom grew up, it was not used to drink water, so it turned into a well of wishes. My mom’s sisters created a tradition to throw stones in the well and wish for their dreams to come true. I remember wanting to go to the pool on one of the summer days but my grandfather refused to take us so then I and my siblings decided to go throw coins in the well and wish to go to the pool, now I don’t know if the wish came true because of the well or because my mom might have persuaded him to take us to the pool, either way, let's just stick with the first option and not ruin the magic.

Searching for a HEART OF GOLD!

On the left of this well, there was a single heart made of gold. The students who build it are so creative because it was made of door latches mashed together.

My thoughts were occupied by the song ‘Heart of Gold- Neil Young’, it is one of the songs you hear on the radio and it is stuck in your mind forever. I also thought of how often I refer to good people as hearts of gold, and it is a beautiful phrase.

War, Peace, and Love

To conclude this blog, I chose my favorite item out of my trips to the Museum and Gallery, which is this picture of two chairs made of guns and a table of glass with a red rose on top.

With everything going on in the world right now, the chairs made me feel uneasy because War is scary, my understanding was that the glass table will break, the chairs made of guns will rise if the Rose which is love, wouldn’t exist in the middle.
