Freedom above everything - Auron Kadriu

                                      FREEDOM ABOVE EVERYTHING

-Have you ever wondered what it feels like living in a place where you are in danger even if you speak on your mother tongue? Well, people living in Kosovo during the 1990s lived in such conditions. The region of Drenica was known for striking back against every occupation but no one knew that a family of this region would become the freedom itself for Kosovo. The Jashari family gave the message to the entire world that the willingness to liberate your country can be more powerful than your desire to live. In this blog, I am going to share my experience of visiting the Memorial Complex Adem Jashari and its significance on the history of Kosovo.

I went to the museum with my parents. The feeling of proudness for being from the same region and for what the Jashari family had sacrificed, made me feel a bit emotional as I was trying to hold my tears back because I did not want my parents to see me crying. I mean, only a person who literally has no feelings would not at least feel bad when hearing about their story and looking on what is left. In my case, I am always emotional because my family also lost a family member during the last war in Kosovo and as I have been told, her biggest wish was to see me. I entered the museum and the things I saw there made me ask myself a question: " How is it possible for a family to fight with an entire army for almost 72 hours "? Light artillery in comparison to the enemies, surrounded from every possible side, a lot of women and children to take care of and still fighting? It is not just bravery, it has to be something more than that.

Firstly, I went to look at the weapons that were used by Adem Jashari and his family members and I thought of myself: " Who would have known these guns would create the history? " I wanted to pick them up but they were inside of a glass. This might sound a bit weird but I wanted to touch them because I was feeling like I would be brave enough to give my life for my country. It is not surprising, I mean, after all it is a place full of glory.

Here are some photos which include the news written on a lot of newspapers which were put on the wall, the dishes and the forks with which he and his family used to eat and the motorcycle of the legendary commander Adem Jashari.

As I was observing around the museum, I felt like I had to take more photos before I go. I took a lot of pictures which I look at on daily basis. Before I left the museum, I was interested to know the amount of people visiting the museum. The administrator of the museum told me that day after day, more and more people visit the Memorial Complex Adem Jashari.

-The story of the Jashari family is one of the main treasures of Kosovo's history. It opened the road of freedom and served as an example for the entire country to stand up for themselves, their families and most importantly for their country. Is not this such a story a bit intriguing to you? The story of Jashari family is unrepeateable but still, if someone told me just a similar kind of a story, I would want to go and learn more about it. When you look at the size of the museum, you might think : “It is not a big museum, what can I possibly see or learn there? “ Do not get deceived by its size because the greatness, the excitement and the knowledge you will find there is going to last in your memory for a long time.
