History Lover’s Paradise
A visit to the National Museum of Kosovo will give you an insight on Kosovo’s culture. You will see many interesting things such as a piece that entered the Guiness Book of World Records 9 times, the remains of an llyrian person,a very famous unique symbol of the capital of Kosovo and much more.
When I first entered the museum,I saw items that were used for different rituals  and were made with unique techniques. It was nice to be informed about how our people made these items back in the day. Then I got to seee a symbol that I see very often in Kosovo, the symbol of the Goddess in the throne. It is a very unique and beautiful symbol and it felt great to be informed about the meaning of it.After this I got to see the remains of an Albanian person in the so called neothilic time.I didn’t expect that I would see this in the museum! The remains were held in a fetal position. This was practiced during the neothilic time because they wanted the humans to be buried in the same way they were born.I got to see some dishes of the neothilic time ,and a superstitious piece held over the dishes to protect yourself from the evil eye. This was a superstition that I’d never heard of before,so I will definitely not forget it!In my visit to the museum,I also got to learn about a ritual which was first practiced by Illyrians ,when people died they would burn their ashes and put them in a dish when they would bury them. This  made me realize that Illyrians had interesting death practices. One of the most gorgeous pieces in the
museum was the runner of Prizren,it was a small piece which represents women and sports, however it is unfortunate that the original piece is held in the museum of Great Britain.Another gorgeous piece was the medallion of Probus,it had a double-portrait of Probus,an Illyrian emperor, and what makes it special is that it is an original and the only medallion of this kind. Then I had the chance to see coins of all the emperors, perfume bottles,a corpse, lamps and  things of such sort. And then I got to learn about yet another interesting death practice of ours, when people died they would bury them along with their tears,as a symbol of love. This practice really touched me, and I wish it would still be practiced today.Moving on,in the museum I saw a big portrait of Mother Teresa, made by Sajmir Strati. This portrait entered the book Guiness 9 times, when I saw it I adored the portrait and felt really proud that it has been a part of the Guiness Book so many times. In this visit,I also got to see personal belongings of Shaqir Hoti,Ibrahim Rugova and Fehmi Agani,3  important people of our culture, and my favorite item was Ibrahim Rugova’s crystal,it was very pleasing for the eye. After this,I got to see many items of the War time, such as uniforms, signs of violence and rape towards Albanians etc.It was very touching. I finished my visit by seeing the Declaration of Kosovo’s Independence, and all the flags who have accepted us as a country. This made my visit end in a positive note!
A visit to the national museum of Kosovo will teleport you back in time, and give you the chance to see and hear about things you have never heard of before!Remains of our people,a portrait that has entered the Guiness book, and much more interesting pieces that make our culture special are definitely something you don’t wanna miss out on!
