Watering my Albanian roots
One of the best things that a person can do is to visit the past. Albanian history and traditions are worth exploring so I decided to do a short tour into Kosovan old wonderland.
My first destination was the National Museum in Prishtina. It was a hot day in May that I found myself in front of the museum's doors. While watching the building from the outside I was wondering if this object knew the importance of what it is containing inside.
My head was wandering from one corner to the other from the amazement that this
object held. The silence inside the museum felt to me as if the building itself
respected the glorious monuments that are shielded by these shiny glasses. I
was stunned more and more every time that I turned my head around. “These
things are unbelievable”- my inner voice whispered to me and I couldn't agree
more.

What
made them more beautiful is the fact that they are traces that my country left
behind. There were weapons, clothes, papers and many other things that my
ancestors wrote history with. I was standing in front of the uniforms that our
most prominent heroes used to wear and I was visualizing our soldiers wearing
them in the battlefields. But what really caught my attention were the
newspapers that they wrote during these times. The letters that created these
writings are deathless.
My
eyes were seeking for more every time that I was walking through these halls. I
felt like I didn't see enough even though there were countless old objects. It
is crazy how much a place that you never thought about amazes you. Before I
never thought that the museum would give me unforgettable memories. But here I
am now, writing about my experience that occupied a place in my mind. If you
are fond of nostalgic items and you want to have a great time exploring you
should consider taking a trip to the National Museum of Kosovo.
After I visited the museum, I was left with the wonder to explore more. Fascinated by the fact how antique my country is, I remembered that a part of history stands in my hometown.
The year that the tower was built |
In Istog, there stands the tower of my family ancestors called “Kulla e Familjes Kajtazaj”. This historic object has a great importance not just for my family but also for Kosovo because it remains one of the oldest monuments in the plateau of Dukagjin.
I visited
our family's tower several times during my life but never paid any attention to
it until lately. My visit to this object after I decided to write the blog was
different. I paid attention to every detail of the monument. While observing, I
felt very proud because this tower represented to me not only history but also
showed a part of me that used to live there. Now this old masterpiece that once
upon a time was the home of five families reflects historical values that will
live forever.
