Where our History comes alive

The Museum of Kosovo is without doubt a storehouse of our  nation’s history and culture. It describes  our nation’s journey from prehistory to modernity, and this description is enriched by the old ornaments, historical artifacts, statues, coins, weapons, clothes and jewelry.

On going to the first floor next to the entry door were some ancient statues, some of them were broken and missing some pieces of their body but still I could see the perfect details and shape that they were given.

I can say that the first floor is a treasure filled with antiques.

I was fascinated by all the things I saw there ranging from Prehistory, Early Neolithic, Iron Age, Medieval and so on. Seeing all the details, the colors and therefore  the shape of all the bracelets made from glass paste, bronze rings, silver earrings and colorful pots, which I loved them and I was fascinated because still to this day we use the pots as home decoration, while back in the Medievals they used it for their needs, not to forget that  we still use  kind of the same jewelry and they're quite on trend these days. It's crazy to think how some things never change.

Walking slowly and reading the descriptions out of curiosity I found out that a pot with  treasure of the Byzantine Emperors of the 12th century was found in Sllovi which is located in Lipjan. This place is near my village where I'm from and somehow that made me happy by just seeing the name of my hometown being part of such a beautiful history.

Another thing that really grabbed my attention is the Dardanian Antiquity. It was a carved relief showing a funeral procession scene, that reflects a funeral of a man, whose coffin is followed by what appears to be his wife in front of the procession. I got lost staring at it for minutes and  I don't know why I felt sad and somehow connected with it but  I really enjoyed it by touching the carved people and all the time my friends that were with me  were telling me that I'm not allowed to touch them  but I just  couldn't help it. And by all of this experience I found out that I really do love ancient monuments.

Goddess on the Throne, it was found in 1956 at the spinning mill in Prishtina. It measures 18.5 cm high and is dated to 5700-4500 BC.

The bust of the Dardanian goddess.

Middle 2nd - beginning of the 3rd century AD.

 Was found in Verban.

The second floor belongs more  to the military equipment section.

It was breathtaking seeing all the weapons, knives,

grenade launchers, weapons of different types used by Albanian fighters,

during the First World War and the Second World War.

For me that I didn't experience the war and that I only used to hear it from my parents, now I had the chance to see pieces from what is left. I felt so close to the history of my country, it was really heart touching and it made me feel proud of who I am and where I'm from. I get to live freely and all the thanks belong to the soldiers of UQK and the commandant Adem Jashari who sacrificed everything including all of his family.

Seeing the bullets that went through the motorbike of Adem Jashari made me realize again how strong he was and what a great warrior he was.

For me it was really hard to see the evidence from Serbian violence, cold steel,
spears, and syringes. I was in tears when I saw the pajamas of women lying down
there as a proof of rape.

The other day I Went with my friends to the Ethnological Museum. There was the guide who gave us a tour through the museum. He told us that this house was once owned by Emin Gjikolli's family. The yard of the house was so big and breathtaking, it has a lot of beautiful trees that you could fill your lungs with fresh air.

The museum exhibits tools and items related to the
lifestyle from the
Ottoman period of Kosovo.

I was surprised to see the doors being so low, I had to take care to not hurt
my head and then I started imagining how they could do it,
especially the tall people in that house.

This is the guest room on the second floor. It was perfectly detailed with the wood windows, red carpet, the handkerchiefs hanging in the wall, and the instrument which I loved it.

The visit to these two museums was thrilling as well as an enriching experience for me.

It was deeply moving to see the history of my country throughout generations.

I am happy to see that history is being safe in these two museums.
