Places that will make you feel like you are time traveling

Have you ever wondered how it would be to live in a house that is 300 years old?

The Ethnographic Museum of Pristina is located in Emin Gjiku, this name comes from this house’s owner Emin Gjikolli. People that live in Pristina often call this place “Emincik” (Turkish) which means “Tiny man”.
In 1990, Emin Gjikolli. presented his house as a “Nature Museum”, in 2003, it was turned into an ethnological museum. This house is the oldest house in Pristina. Inside of this museum, we can view the 18-century Ottoman lifestyle.

The Entrance:

The entrance of the house was beautiful and comforting, it included lots of greenery and a stone fountain.

The House:

The house as a building was built traditionally. As I was exploring this part of the house I felt welcomed and relaxed.

Inside:

During that time the hallways were used as a room and it was called “Qyshk” (Albanian). Seeing this part of the house, made me feel very nostalgic since my family had a house like this and how I used to spend time with my grandfather.

This item is made of copper and it was called “Mangal” and it was used to make the room hot by burning a fire inside. They also used it to make coffee and tea.

This part of the room was used when the guests would come. Inside some instruments can be seen, which shows how they used to spend their time.

Decoration & Clothing:

During that time clothing was made with lots of layering and clothing was decorated with beautiful Albanian embroidery motives.

Pristina’s Ethnological Museum is a must to visit. It was a relaxing experience with beautiful greenery from the entry that keeps 300-year treasures inside of it. As I was exploring the house I saw lots of items that my grandfather owned and during the tour, my eyes were always teary because it made me miss the old days.

A place where you can experience different Eras.

The national Kosovo Museum is located in Pristina. This is the largest museum in Kosovo, founded in 1949 by Yugoslav authorities.
Archaeological Museum contains a lot of authentic historical gravestones, jewelry, mythological scenes, statues, and a lot of Dardanian's ancient period, Neolithic period, Roman period, and Byzantine period historical treasures.

The building is beautiful. Soft colors and stone stairs made me feel like I was in a fairytale.

This is the Declaration of independence. It was so interesting to see all the writing up close and seeing it made me proud.

Since I love jewelry, I was so excited to see these pieces up close. The style and colors were so beautiful and now we have this type of pieces in nowadays fashion trends.

These are Tear bottles; they were used in ancient Roman period. When a woman had a lover in a war or they were mourners, they filled these glass cups with their tears as symbols of love and respect. There are size differences, because their lovers didn’t return for a long time so they filled bigger glasses.

This part of the museum made me so sad. I spend most of my time there watching all the pain they felt and I hoped that they reunited with their lovers.

My experience in the Archaeological Museum was awesome. The history behind every little thing and the knowledge I achieved, feelings that I felt was so special. You can go with your friends like I did, so you can discuss what you saw and learned. After this museum visit, I promised myself that I will visit more museums.
